Chicago native Mechalie Jamison is a renowned songwriter, composer, and producer whose decades-long career has shaped the sound of modern R&B and soul. After years behind the scenes creating timeless music for industry legends, Jamison now steps into the spotlight with the release of his debut single, “Never Wanna Let You Go.” Produced by hitmaker Earl Powell, the single is the lead track from his highly anticipated EP, Steppin Out, available on all streaming platforms starting.

Jamison’s résumé is a testament to his impact on the culture. He has written and produced for icons such as Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Toni Braxton, Brandy, Jennifer Lopez, and Jon B. His journey has included a record deal with Priority Records, a publishing contract with EMI, and an A&R executive role at Motown Records, solidifying his reputation as a cornerstone of R&B’s golden era.

Outside of music, Jamison has made creative contributions to both film and fashion. He composed the score for ESPN’s acclaimed 30 for 30 documentary Benji, collaborated with celebrated directors Coodie & Chike, and consulted for Lamar Odom’s Rich Soil clothing brand.

Currently, Jamison is scoring an upcoming documentary on the life of painter Ernie Barnes and developing a stage musical titled Chicken Bone Trail, once again teaming with Coodie & Chike for a visionary storytelling experience.

The Steppin Out EP marks a powerful creative reunion between Jamison, longtime collaborator Tony Red (fellow Luke Records alum), and producer Earl Powell, known for his work with Jennifer Hudson, Keyshia Cole, and Snoop Dogg. The result is a soulful, story-driven project that blends vintage R&B textures with modern sensibility, ushering in Jamison’s next act not just as a hitmaker, but as an artist in full bloom.
